I have always wanted to be good at music production. I am nowhere near where I would like to be, but I took a shot at making a remix of Señorita by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello.
I started by thinking this would be an original song and wrote the instrumental part. When trying to brainstorm ideas for lyrics, Señorita suddenly popped into my head. With just a few tweaks of the length of the sections, the tempo, and the key, I was surprised by how well the lyrics and music went together.
Music used to be a huge part of my life when I was younger. I played in numerous bands during junior high, high school, and the first half of college. After I finally declared my major in business management, the second half of college was the beginning of a steep decline in the amount of time I was able to dedicate to playing and writing music. This remix project was something that I was only able to accomplish by starting it over the weekend and then doing a marathon writing and mixing session after I got home from work by staying up until 3:30 in the morning. This is only the second remix I have ever done, with my first attempt being over 10 years ago. I’m sure there are ways this could be improved, but I am still very happy with the result.
After listening to the finished recording, I had the giddiness of a little kid. I was even giggling with joy and excitement at one point. It has been so long since I have worked on any of my own music, so I was very happy to be able to work on this project.
Here it is, along with a video I put together to go with the song. Enjoy!
